The Foundation this spring will offer 64 scholarships for the academic year of 2016-17, a record-setting mark of $169,070 in financial support. The previous high was in 2010 at $160,900.
The average scholarship award is $2,642 compared with $2,221 a year ago. The Foundation is encouraging sponsors to increase grants from the minimum of $1,500 to the $2,000 level and is seeking new scholarships in the range of $3,500 to $5,000 in response to ever-increasing tuition and living costs.
The 2016 scholarships bring the total offered since 1984 to $2,616,190. A total of 1,764 students will have received scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $7,500 since the Foundation was established in 1984.
