Scholarship Foundation of Northshore will honor 75 Northshore graduates May 24 at its 33rd annual recognition breakfast at the Senior Center in Bothell. The Foundation and its supporting partners will award a total of $196,500 in tuition scholarships for academic year 2017-18.
The event is co-sponsored by the Rotary clubs of Northshore and Woodinville and the Kiwanis Club of Northshore. The breakfast brings together scholarship sponsors with recipients and their families. Recipients represent the Northshore district’s four high schools and UW Bothell, Cascadia College and Lake Washington Institute of Technology.
The 33rd year of operation is a record year both in number of scholarships and value. It marks presentation of seven new $2,500 scholarships in specific fields of study which are funded by the Foundation’s new Northshore Community Scholarship Fund. The average scholarship is $2,620 for 2017 and the number of sponsoring donor-partners has increased to 46.
One of the new sponsors is residential remodeling contractor Westhill, Inc. which offered a $2,500 to a recipient interested in entering the building trades and construction industry.
The fields of study scholarships include Arts & Music, Business, Education, General Studies, Healthcare, S.T.E.M. and Vocational-Occupational.
One scholarship winner plans to attend Texas Christian University which will bring the total number of schools recipients have attended to 176 in 35 states. A total of 176 program fields have been pursued over the 33 years of operation.
The non-profit Foundation has awarded $2.8 million in scholarships to 1,850 graduates since nine members of the Northshore Rotary Club organized the program in the spring of 1984. Today, a community board of trustees manages an asset base of $1.6 million.
