It’s Scholarship Season.
Two new scholarships are being offered – the Ackerman Memorial Music Scholarship and the Hughes Family Memorial Scholarship, each at $3,500. Graduates of all five Northshore high schools are eligible.
The music scholarship was established upon the generous $158,000 contribution to the Foundation from the estate of Bernie and Dorothy Ackerman, long time Bothell residents. Bernie retired in 1982 as the music coordinator for the Northshore School District, having started as a band and choral director at Bothell High School in 1955. The Ackerman scholarship is renewable for three additional academic years.
The Hughes Family grant is for graduate planning studies and a career in the profession of social services, including mentoring, career counseling, or similar programs designed to help others achieve personal advancement. The scholarship is sponsored by the family of Foundation executive director John B. Hughes. It is being given in memory of family daughter Betsey Hughes and the family grandson Robert (Bobby) Skinner. Both led exemplary lives in helping others.
