2016 Scholarship Award Breakfast

Friends, family and supporters packed the Northshore Senior Center in Bothell May 19 as the Scholarship Foundation of Northshore awarded 70 college scholarships to 2016 graduating seniors of Northshore’s high schools.
It was the 32nd year the Foundation has recognized its class of scholarship recipients. The scholarships totaled $180,570 this year, raised from the Northshore community.
The Foundation also honored two “community heroes” for their dedicated leadership for education.
Five of the scholarships were new this year. The scholarship and recipient included:
Egon Molbak “Service Above Self” scholarship, $5,000, awarded to Leylani Blanco, Inglemoor graduate planning to enter the field of nursing and enrolling at University of Washington Bothell.
Northshore Community Scholarship, $5,000 each, awarded to Alex Steiner of Bothell High School, considering a career in law enforcement and attending University of Washington Bothell after completing his program at Cascadia College. Also awarded to Kaylen Dailey of Woodinville High School, whose plan is to attend the University of Washington and study business.
Spirit of Entrepreneurship Scholarship, $5,000, provided by an anonymous donor from the Town of Grace, was awarded to Olivia Banks, Woodinville grad planning to attend Gonzaga University to study accounting and business.
McAuliffe Family Scholarship, $3,500, recognizing the civic contributions of Rosemary and Jim McAuliffe of Bothell, was awarded to Shani Brummer of Inglemoor High School who will attend Gonzaga University, interested in the fields of marketing and real estate.
“Rotarian of the Year” Scholarship, $5,000, awarded to Ariana Navarro, a member of the Rotaract Club at UW Bothell and a sophomore in a program pursuing the fields of law and psychology. The scholarship is provided by the Woodinville Rotary Club.
The Foundation honored retiring State Senator Rosemary McAuliffe for her 24 years in the Washington State Legislature and 14 years as a member of the Northshore School Board. She received the Foundation’s new “Meritorious Community Service Award for Educational Leadership.”
The presidents of the Woodinville and Northshore Rotary Clubs Erv DeSmet and Gary Anderson presented the Rotary’s prestigious Paul Harris Fellow designation to Larry Francois who will leave the Northshore school system in June after eight years as the superintendent of the Northshore School District.
