The principal objective is to support a graduating student who has an ambition or aspiration that will ultimately improve and enhance the nation’s ability to motivate and educate young citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the nation’s republic and secure its future.
Criteria
- Open to graduating seniors of all Northshore District high schools
- Grade point minimum of 3.0
- Financial need is a consideration
- Transcripts and test score (SAT/ACT) required
- Student can be going into any field with the understanding that civic outreach will be a lifelong goal.
- REQUIRED: two letters of recommendation. One must be from a professional educator who is familiar with the applicant’s abilities, personal qualities and character.
- The second recommendation can be from anyone of the applicant’s choosing.
- THREE ESSAYS: Each in 500 Words or less, (1) include a personal essay that addresses one’s personal ambitions, post-high school education plans or course of studies, motivations and experiences.
- (2) Reflect on this statement by Thomas Paine: “Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must ...undergo the fatigue of supporting it.”

Requirements
- This award or scholarship provides limited financial support to an individual who (1) aspires to systematically expand and promote citizenship education throughout society and, (2) has demonstrated a high interest, understanding and commitment to civic duties. A priority consideration is given to those who could promote citizenship education in the nation’s public schools.
- Finalists may be interviewed by the sponsor and individuals assigned to the Selection Committee.
