New Donor-Partners Focus on Civics Education, 2-Sport Athletes, Special Needs & “Dreaming Big”
Each of the 10 new scholarships will be awarded for $5,000 – just above the $4,914 average of all 106 scholarships offered this year. Six are offered as a result of the Foundation’s successful public Strive campaign to raise funds to award first-time Strive 5 Community Scholarships at each of the six Northshore district high schools.
A most generous – but anonymous – scholarship supporters, challenged the community to make public donations that they would match dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. Strive 5 received 96 donations totaling $50,823 from June through December. The amount was doubled in January with their check for the match.
A Strive 5 grant will be awarded to an applicant graduating from one of the six eligible schools.
The four new scholarships, and their funding sponsors, are listed below:
Carter Civics Education
Dr. Tom Carter, former Northshore educator and active in the Northshore Education Association, Donor Partner.
Dream Big

Who and How We Work
One way or another, it takes a large amount of volunteers to organize and manage the process of awarding scholarships, particularly as the number of scholarships, donors and recipients continue to grow.
The Foundation and I are indebted to B-Z Davis, Cathy Swanson, Nathaniel Gibbs and Laurie Broulette who have taken on the vital roles required to coordinate and manage the communications, online applications, social media and the processing of re-applications for recipients who are eligible for renewals.
We also welcome a host of volunteers including Holly Call, Ken Ohnemus, Sandy Kallio and Carol Lee to stage the annual scholarship awards breakfast. We are fortunate to have Margaret Rudin and Jennifer Ratliff helping with outreach duties along with Chairman Doug Moore.
In addition, I welcome Jaskaran Singh, a CPA from the firm of Visse-CPAs, who has signed on to organize and manage the complicated process of financial accounting and record-keeping chores.
